Information and Image resource for the artist Mike Janes

Mike Janes worked for 25 years as a builder. In his mid forties he obtained a BA (Hons) Fine Art in Context from the University of the West of England.

Drawing upon his years of experience as a manual worker, Mike works now mainly using building materials such as concrete, stone, wood, bitumen, plaster etc.

“The plaster, concrete and various mixed media paintings and sculptures exhibit strong elements of abstract expressionism and structured space. Colour, texture and a unique perspective contribute to a body of work that is skillfully executed in style and content.”

“Mike's background in the Building Industry is of great influence to him as an artist. This current series of works, exhibited on London Art, directly examines and reflects the effects of manual labour on the building site and its effect on the skin. Rather than using traditional painting methods and mediums, Mike chooses to compound the imagery, using the very same materials and skills associated with the trade.”
